Fijian Holdings Unit Trust Goes Electronic
19 February, 2010
Unit Holders at the Fijian Holdings Unit Trust (FHUT) will no longer be issued with paper certificates. After being in operation for nine years, FHUT has implemented electronic certification which is an alternative to the use of paper versions. FHUT Manager Sales and Marketing, Sowani Tuidrola said, “With any Unit Trust, certificates are used to guarantee that individuals have investment with FHUT and secondly they act as withdrawal slips in the event an investor wishes to redeem his or her funds. Now with electronic certificates, investors will be issued with statements of their accounts every 6 months or at any time upon request”. In the past, new and existing investors were issued with paper certificates on a fortnightly basis each time they purchased units. According to Mr Tuidrola, the new electronic system will improve efficiency and customer service for the Fund as Unit Holders do not have to bring in their paper certificates when they need to redeem or withdraw their funds. Withdrawals have now been made easier. Customers just have to fill in a form which is available at the Fijian Holdings Trust Management Limited Office (FHTML) or at any of FHUT’s Services Providers and these include all Post Fiji Outlets Fijiwide and in Rotuma, Merchant Finance Branches, ANZ Bank Branches, ANZ Rural Banking, FHL Securities Limited, Kontiki Stockbrokers and Fiji Stockbrokers. .The electronic system has also removed the problems that investors go through when they lose their paper certificates making it easier for them to access their investment. However, paper certificates can still be issued to those investors who prefer to have them. The change has also benefited FHUT with regards to the reduction in the cost of paperwork and has helped the organization achieve its objective of providing its customers with easy access to its services and lifting customer service to another level. Mr Tuidrola added that FHUT is looking at other innovative ways of providing additional products and services that will enable it to serve its customers better and make their investments with the Fund worthwhile. About FHUT FHUT is an income and growth fund designed to offer investors an affordable and high quality investment product that offers attractive returns. It is open to all Fiji residents and non-resident investors.
