FHL Rewards Top Fijian Student
Tomasi White, Queen Victoria School’s 2009 Dux was awarded the Fijian Holdings Limited (FHL) award for the Indigenous Fijian student that scored the highest mark in Form 7 Fijiwide. Tomasi was presented his Award which is a laptop computer by FHL Chairman, Mr Isoa Kaloumaira at a morning tea hosted by the company in the presence of CEO’s and Senior Executives of the FHL Group. Fijian Holdings Limited has for the last five years sponsored Dux prizes for Queen Victoria School, Ratu Kadavulevu School and Adi Cakobau School. Dux prize winners each received a HP Compaq Laptop computer worth $2,400 with 2 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive and inbuilt web camera. The computers come ready to use with the latest operating system Windows 7 Pro, a carry case, wireless mouse, 320 GB External Hard Drive and 1 year service warranty. Each student also received a printer with internet connection provided by FHL’s Dux sponsorship partner, Telecom Fiji Limited. According to FHL Managing Director, Mrs Sereana Qoro, last year was the 5th year of FHL’s Education Sponsorship Programme and since taking up the sponsorship, FHL has provided laptop computers for all winners to reward them for their excellent academic performances and hard work and to equip and encourage them to strive for continued excellence at tertiary level. Mrs Qoro said, “The Dux and Top Form Seven Awards are aimed at recognizing and promoting academic excellence among our young people. Having a good education enables our young people to identify and appreciate areas of strength which should connect them to their vocation and destiny in life.” Fijian Holdings Limited celebrated 25 years of success as a business in October last year. Since its humble inception in 1984, the company is now one of the largest group of companies in Fiji. With 9 subsidiaries and 12 associate companies, it provides a wide range of career opportunities for students as and when they are ready and ably qualified to join the labour market. “We also presently have in all our companies Management Training Schemes targeted at graduate level and these awards broaden our involvement in the area of education. The FHL Dux prizes for 2009 were awarded to Tomasi White of Queen Victoria School, Samuela Pohiva of Ratu Kadavulevu School and Keresi Lomata of Adi Cakobau School. Votua lad, Tomasi said, “I feel really blessed and I thank FHL for the sponsorship”.
