Hume Industries Expands Operation

Hume Industries, a subsidiary of Fijian Holdings Limited based in Lami, recently opened a new plant on Jai Hanuman Road in Vatuwaqa in order to bring its products closer to its customers.

According to Hume General Manager, Mr Mosese Natuilagilagi, the operation started due to the high demand for the company’s products which include pre stressed flooring system and precast wall panels required for the Vinod Patel extension project at Centrepoint and the ICT government centre at Berkely Crescent in Suva. Large box culverts are also being produced for the Naqali Bridge project.

Mr Natuilagilagi said, “Vatuwaqa is the central business location for the greater Suva area and the move certainly brings us closer to the main project sites thus making our products cheap and affordable to customers with reduced transportation cost.”  Other projects that the company has in the pipeline include the $70 million Housing Authority Housing project for Tacirua Stage 2, Wainibuku and Nepani, the Haven $300 million Development project, the University of the South Pacific residential apartments project, the new Police Headquarters, the thirteen storey Fosters Street commercial and hotel residence complex and the Fiji Road Upgrading 4 project which is anticipated to commence early next year.

Hume has also acquired land in Vulovi, Labasa where it will set up a plant for the production of concrete power poles, concrete sleepers, road kerbs, bridge beams, water tanks and other products to cater for customers in the North which comprises the Fiji Electricity Authority, Fiji Sugar Corporation, Public Works Department, Labasa Town Council and other contractors. Operations at the Labasa Plant is planned to commence before the end of 2009.
