FHL Continues Award of Dux Prizes to Top 4 Fijian
Fijian Holdings Limited (FHL) today announced that it would provide the Dux prizes for four Fijian Secondary Schools, namely Queen Victoria School, Ratu Kadavulevu School, Adi Cakobau School and the highest amongst the other Fijian Secondary Schools [pending confirmation from the Ministry of Education] for 2004 and 2005. Similar arrangement was made in 2003. In announcing the decision today, FHL Managing Director Mr Sitiveni Weleilakeba said that Fijian Holdings Limited is keen to continue the association with education at secondary school level. FHL is well known in Fiji for its financial accomplishment and our shareholders have benefited directly from this. Since its establishment, FHL had paid out over $34.5 million in dividends to its shareholders in addition to maintaining a consistent growth in shareholder value. “In a small way, the continuation of the award reflects our focus to share our success with our people and also to take a more constructive involvement in the education of the future leaders of our nation,” said Mr Weleilakeba. “As you know FHL’s primary reason of existence is to accelerate the participation of Fijians’ in the corporate sector and we believe that these awards will help in achieving this goal,” Mr Weleilakeba explained. According to Mr Weleilakeba, education is the one of most effective method towards achieving success in the commercial world. “FHL has a Management Training Scheme targeted at graduate from tertiary institutions as part of its corporate structure, and the continuation of these awards will enlarge the scope of FHL’s involvement in the area of education and development”, he said. The prizes are four new Laptop Computers. These computers will come ready to use with Windows XP Professional and Office 2003, a Carry Case and 1 year service warranty. The total cost of the prizes was $12,000. The respective Schools’ Principals together with the Chief Education Officer – Secondary, represented the four Secondary Schools. Mr Suliasi Lutubula from the Ministry of Education expressed their appreciation to the continued support from Fijian Holdings Limited and said that these prizes should be very useful as it would be an encouragement to the recipients to further aspire for higher honours. FHL intend to monitor progress of these students through their higher education and may assist in developing their careers.
